"I grew up in a world full of chaos and violence
and turned to heroin at the age of 17. The drugs took away the
fear, the hurt and the pain. They numbed all of my feelings and
allowed me to escape, to run away from the one thing I feared most
- myself.
Heroin was what I lived for. I soon turned to
crime, shoplifting, burglary and robbery. I shattered all my relationships
with my family and hurt anyone and everyone who was or tried to
get close to me.
I lost the will to live, and after being bullied
and abused in prison, I believed that I couldn't take any more.
I tried to take my own life. My cry for help was answered and I
was given the information about the Ley Community. Reading the
brochure gave me a tiny piece of hope. I came here from prison
with the help of the courts and my drug worker.
I have now been at the Ley Community for six months
and have built relationships and friendships I never thought I'd
find. The care and support I receive is overwhelming. I have got
back my relationships with my family, confidence within myself,
and most significantly, I have got my life back. I have a future
now. I owe my life and my sanity to the Ley Community"
