The Ley Community is a registered Care
Home and has to meet the standards set by the
Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI). Each year, the Ley
Community receives one announced and one unannounced inspection
when the Inspector from the CSCI undertakes a full inspection against
the standards. Anyone interested in the inspections can receive
a copy of the inspection report
on request, as the reports are public documents.
In addition, every month one of the Ley Community
Trustees undertakes an inspection. On these inspections, the
Board members will speak to staff and residents and be available
for anyone to raise concerns about the way that the programme is
being managed. These inspections provide an important check that
the Community is being managed appropriately.
Related to the Inspection process described above,
the Ley Community achieved the Investor in People Award in 1999,
and every two years the standard is externally reviewed to ensure
that staff development and training continues to receive the attention
it needs.
Finally, the Ley Community has participated in
the Community of Communities Quality Network run by the Royal College
of Psychiatrists Research Unit in collaboration with the Association
of Therapeutic Communities. This project requires participating communities
to undertake a self-review by staff and residents against published
standards, and they receive a peer-review from staff and residents
from another Therapeutic Community. This exercise has provided a
useful check on the way the programme operates.
