The following rules have been developed to ensure that the Ley Community is a safe place in which to live and work:
- Violence: Violence, or threats of violence, is not tolerated at the Ley. Incidents are very rare, but should an incident happen, the person will be asked to leave and the police may be involved
- Drugs/Alcohol: The possession of drugs or alcohol is treated very seriously. Should an incident arise, the resident will be asked to go before a General Meeting of both staff and residents where a decision will be made as to whether they should be asked to leave
- Harassment, Discrimination, Dishonesty, Refusal to Participate: Any behaviour that falls under these four headings is treated seriously, and could lead to a resident being asked to leave
- Exclusive Relationships: Experience has clearly demonstrated that exclusive relationships between residents damage both the programme and the residents concerned. Exclusive relationships are not permitted, and should such a relationship develop, a resident may be asked to leave
- Neighbours: The Ley Community is well regarded by the local community in Yarnton. All residents and staff should take care to treat neighbours with respect and courtesy at all times
- Language: Staff and residents should treat each other with respect and consideration. Bad language is not acceptable in the Community
- New Residents: A new resident arriving at the Ley Community under the influence of drugs or alcohol is assessed by staff on duty. The new resident may be asked to leave or be supervised in a single room until fit enough to participate in the programme
- Letters, phone calls and visits: These are all closely monitored. The priority is the safety of residents. Much is agreed by staff 'on merit'
- Money: Residents have no money in their personal possession. Staff manage residents' personal allowances, and purchases are made through signing memos
