The Ley Community has very ambitious aims for all residents admitted to the programme. We know that people who have been able to complete the programme have been able to radically change their lives, and live a full and enjoyable future without the need to rely on misusing substances as a way to cope with their feelings. Whilst the aim of the programme is to provide residents with the knowledge and confidence to cope with a future without drugs, the programme is structured to provide an opportunity for residents to learn from each other, and realise their own potential for making considerate, constructive relationships.
Prior to coming to the Ley Community, many residents have been living chaotic lives, and the programme provides a clear and firm structure to support the changes that need to be made.
It is a complex programme that has developed with the wisdom of time. The programme provides the chance for residents to care for each other and, in so doing, to start to care for themselves. It provides an opportunity for residents to learn new skills and take responsibility for maintaining high standards, and in taking pride in their achievement.
Above all, it builds up a real sense of self-belief so that all residents are able to successfully gain full-time employment on the open job market by the end phase of their programme. This is a remarkable achievement given that many residents come to the Ley Community with no record of successfully gaining and maintaining employment.
On completion of the programme, ex-residents move out together into shared rented accommodation in the Oxford area, and continue to support each other. It is the strength of the relationships formed with each other whilst in the programme that is the key issue as to whether they can continue to support each other in the wider community after completing the Ley Community programme. |
